The curriculum at Key Stage 3 is designed to give students experience working in a wide range of Art and Design areas providing them with a foundation from which they can develop at Key Stage 4 and beyond. We provide opportunities for students to work with both 2 and 3 dimensional materials and techniques. In Year 7 we follow a theme of environment and this progresses through to portrait and identity in year 8. Critical studies play a major role in students learning developing their analytical and visual language understanding.
Key Stage 4
Years 9 and 10 will study GCSE Art and Design with the AQA exam board. Throughout this course students will complete 2 coursework projects before embarking on the externally set exam. Students have 7 periods in Year 9 and 6 periods in Year 10 per fortnight.

At Key Stage 5 students study Art, Craft and Design with AQA. The course is a two year linear course comprising of one coursework project and an externally set assignment. The department offers a number of extracurricular activities including lunchtime clubs and after school support sessions. Our senior students offer a Year 7 Art club and there is also a weekly Year 8 print club. Art students have the opportunity to visit Art galleries and in year 12 are given the opportunity to take part in the Faculty trip to Amsterdam.
The department holds a number of external exhibitions at Key Stage 4 and 5 in various venues around Faversham and we regularly have students’ work accepted to the National Student exhibition in the Mall Galleries in London which resulted in RBA Scholorships being offered. In 2016 the Art department won the prestigious John Downton Award for the second consecutive year.
