Entry Requirements

If you would like to apply for a place in the Sixth Form, we can promise you a broad and balanced curriculum and rich variety of extra-curricular opportunities which add to your sixth form experience.

INTERNAL APPLICATIONS

The closing date for applications is 25th February 2019.

If you are already at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School as a Year 11 student:

  • You should have attended our Open Evening on November 8th 2018
  • Then discussed your options with your Form Tutor and with teaching staff at the Year 11 parents’ evening
  • You will experience A level taster sessions in early February.
  • Make a formal application via www.ucasprogress.com
  • Attend a formal Sixth Form Application meeting in March 2018
  • Achieve at least 33 points from your best six GCSE, AS or CNAT grades. Short course GCSEs may be included within this calculation but at half value, i.e. an A grade in RS would count as half a grade at 3.5 points.
  • Achieve at least GCSE grade 5 in Mathematics and an English examination
  • Achieve at least GCSE grade 6 or B in subjects they wish to study at A level (or in the case of new subjects, in named subject areas)
  • If Mathematics is a chosen option, level 8-9 at GCSE is required
  • If Chemistry is a chosen option, an A or A*  (8-9) grade is desirable
  • For some subjects the entry requirements differ slightly. For example to study Psychology, candidates need to obtain a grade 7 in Mathematics GCSE. More information about specific entry requirements can be found in the Sixth Form Options guide. Please click here to access the booklet

APPLICATIONS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS

The closing date for applications will be 25th February 2019, but applications after this date will be considered.

  • You should have attended our Open Evening on November 8th 2018. If you were unable to attend our open evening and would like to visit Queen Elizabeth’s, the Sixth Form team would be pleased to arrange a tour of the school for you on another occasion.   • Make a formal application via www.ucasprogress.com
  • Attend a formal Sixth Form Application meeting (dependent on predicted grades). The Application meetings this academic year will take place from February 2018

All Students

All applications to join the Sixth Form must be made using the online system www.ucasprogress.com

Students should refer to the Options Guide carefully before choosing their subject combinations.

  • Students should consider their academic progress before making final decisions.
  • Students should consider how their subject combinations may impact on their choices for Higher Education and their post-18 plans.

Students entering Year 12 are expected to study three A level subjects, all of which they should be capable of completing.  Students will also be asked for a reserve subject, for use in the case of timetabling issues, and an enhancement subject (please refer to the Options Guide). In exceptional cases, and after discussion, 4 subjects may be studied, particularly if Further Maths is required.

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Literature
  3. Government & Politics

Students who have a conditional offer to join Queen Elizabeth’s in September 2019 will be invited to our Sixth Form Induction Programme in the summer of 2019, dates will be published later this year.
