Sixth Form Open Evening Wednesday 8th November 2017
The Sixth Form Open Evening for all Year 11 and visiting students takes place on Wednesday 8th November from 18:00 to 20:30. The event begins in the Hall with a talk by the Headteacher, following which there are subject presentations. The event is designed to help students make informed choices for their post-16 studies. There will be a timetable of presentations published in advance in order for you to plan your evening. As there are only six possible sessions, we recommend that students focus on subjects where they need to find out more, rather than those for which they are already certain.

The Sixth Form is a high profile part of this outstanding school with an excellent track record of examination results and applications to competitive courses in Higher Education, other academic routes, apprenticeships and alternative training pathways.
The vast majority of our current students and an increasing number of students from other schools join this highly successful Sixth Form at the end of Year 11.
The Sixth Form represents two pivotal years in the lives of all pupils at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School. Students are treated as individuals and also take an active role in supporting the wider school community.
All students have access to high quality guidance and support throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Mentoring conversations assist students with everything from discussions around academic progress, setting personal targets, career pathways and personal issues. The pastoral support at Queen Elizabeth’s is an area of particular strength. Feedback demonstrates that students really value and enjoy the Sixth Form experience at this school.
The academic and extra-curricular opportunities on offer help ensure that students leave Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School well qualified and prepared for the broader challenges of adult life.
Choosing the correct subjects to study and excelling in them is vital for all students. We hope that the information contained within this guide, alongside the information in the online prospectus, will help students to make informed decisions around the subject choices and the career pathways available to them.
The School offers a challenging and broad range of ‘A’ level options. Please refer to the guide which contains information about the courses available to study from September 2018. Each course description outlines entry requirements, potential Higher Education opportunities and potential careers, which we hope you will find useful. All students are expected to study a minimum of four courses, comprising of three full academic subjects and an enhancement course. Students who are working at a GCSE score of 45 or A/A* in all their GCSE subjects will be allowed to study four full ‘A’ level courses if they wish.
From September 2017 all subjects followed the new linear format, where students are assessed at the end of the second year of study in June 2019.
Students entering the Sixth Form at Queen Elizabeth’s are required to achieve six GCSE grades at grade B (or a 6 in Mathematics or English) with at least a grade B (or 6) in their chosen subjects. Option choices for studying in the Sixth Form should be completed by 25th February 2017. This allows students time to consider their performance in mock examinations and discuss choices with form tutors and subject teachers, which we strongly encourage. Students applying from other schools are invited to discuss their choices with our staff at any stage, particularly during individual application meetings.
We look forward to seeing you on the 8th November,
The Sixth Form Team
